So you want to know about my life? Well, there is so much to tell
and not enough ink, paper, time, or patience. So here it is in
my cliff note format:
Melissa Nichole Stacy --------- AKA Nicky
(What were my parents thinking? Little house on the prairie?)
I was born in West Virginia in 1974. I was raised in Maryland
and in other countries due to "military brat syndrome."
I am (this sucks) 26 years old but I don't look a day over 12.
Hopefully this will work out for me once I'm 40!
Somehow I always knew I wanted to be a performer. I was constantly
in front of a mirror with that infamous hairbrush singing to Madonna,
Boy George, Michael Jackson, New Edition, etc. (80's music ruined
us all). My parents didn't think I could sing and saw no future
in my mirror shows. Needless to say you never saw me on Star Search
or anything else like it. Then I tried Piano (no Tori Amos skills
here).
It was probably around 15 that I made a serious musical transition
graduating from Madonna to Metallica (I was the best damn air
guitarist you've ever seen). My wild hair began to grow. I found
myself in a guitar class. There I was this little black girl surrounded
by a bunch of dude's with hair longer than mine wanting to continue
Led Zeppelin's legacy. It was there, as you may have guessed,
that the Tracy Chapman jokes began. Well listen buddy I never
had a fast car, I drive a Hyundai which means I have a parked
car. J
I played every second I could. I've woken up with her (la guitara)
in my arms many mornings. Due to living in a dysfunctional environment,
writing songs came very easy to me. I began performing at coffeehouses
and open mics. I rounded up two boys to join me. We were the worst
Courtney Love concoction to be seen. I decided it wasn't working
and left them to play by myself. About six (6) months later I
stumbled into the most talented drummer Roger Stewart. Roger brought
to me Mark (the blackman) Butler. Then Gavin (the man) Hurley
brought us some Kenny G (less the Kenny G of course). We played
together for a year and a half as a four-piece powerhouse. Something
was missing. When I looked up it was Brother Nischom Silverman
and his electric guitar.
Now we're recording an album to Freeze The Moment, because its
magic every time we're together.
